Bing search ranking absolutely tanked after I made Bing Webmaster Tools account??
Main Post:
First time website owner here.
I noticed an unexpected amount of traffic to my new site over the past week (more than expected, since I had not advertised it anywhere, etc). Searching some various search engines, I found that Bing was somehow showing my site as the second result for a particular set of key words (that Google wasn't showing for the same words)
Keen to learn some more, I went and made an account for Bing Webmaster Tools.
Within the next day, my website completely disappeared from the first results page for those same key words on Bing (website traffic dropped to 0, as expected).
Anyone know what might have happened here? Was it simply a coincidence that this occurred at the same time I made an account for Bing Webmaster Tools (Bing suddenly realised to not rank my site so high, as is the case on Google)? Or is this somehow linked to me making an account?

It's a racket, they want you to use Bing Ads. Fortunately, if you don't give them any money, your rankings will go back to normal after a few weeks.
Competing with free SEO tools
Main Post:
Hello everyone. My friend is going to pay me to take care of the SEO part of his small ish business. This is actually my first professional project, and I was wondering can I do it without the premium tools? I honestly don't have the budget to use SEMrush, Moz, or ahrefs. Will the free tools out there suffice for finding the best keywords or backlinks?
Thank you.
EDIT: Thank you all for your amazing replies!
Top Comment: Especially if you start without a big budget for content creation and outreach, this tool stack should work for you: Google Search Console to track your rankings, learn about keywords, and find crawling errors. Screaming Frog to crawl your website and find technical issues. The free version is sufficient for very small websites. AlsoAsked.com to find questions to answer in your content You could add: ahrefs Webmaster Console to get a few more insights into your current rankings

Top Comment: Ahrefs = SEO industry standard SEMrush = Ahrefs + Other (helpful) marketing tools Moz = Ahrefs - Good user experience. Those are the only ones I would actually consider. Haven't used anything as helpful as those.

Best SEO tools if your company has very small budget?
Main Post:
We are a brand new business - trying to turn our little hobby into a business.
We sell screen printed shirts (I have 23 years experience working in the industry and starting my own now).
We have no income yet so its whatever we have in the bank - we want to do some print advertising around town and then try to optimize our website (wix) and google business profile with an online SEO tool.
We could maybe afford like $40 a month (eventually we will want to spend more but don't have money yet).
Best options?
Top Comment: I am shocked by many of the suggestions here. If I was doing SEO with $480 per year, exactly $0 would go towards tools. My take: You do not need tools to do SEO. Especially not paid tools. Use Google Search Console. It is free and already gives you a lot of data. The free version of ScramingFrog SEO Crawler is good enough for small websites. But unless you constantly change your website, you will rarely need it. Only if you absolutely need information that you cannot get from free tools or if there is a workflow that you wish to automate/improve, then you should think about buying a paid tool. optimize our website (wix) and google business profile Focus on the Google Business Profile. You are much more likely to see results quickly. Especially if you have no background in SEO. The most important things you will need is: Filled out profile Good reviews from happy customers Good pictures we want to do some print advertising around town That is exactly what to do for this kind of business. This + other forms of marketing/advertising + Local SEO are the way to go. Traditional SEO is unlikely to drive you significant traffic in the first 12 months. Another piece of advice: Put your target keywords into Google and see who is ranking. Many will be directories. Try to get on there!
